Why Test Mouse Buttons?

Testing your mouse buttons is essential when buying a new mouse, troubleshooting an existing one, or preparing for competitive gaming. This tool helps identify ghost clicks, broken switches, scroll wheel issues, and unresponsive side buttons.

Our interactive mouse tester provides real-time visual feedback with an accurate SVG representation of a gaming mouse. Each button lights up when pressed, and the status dashboard tracks click counts and CPS for detailed analysis.

How to Use This Mouse Tester

  1. Click each button on your mouse — left, right, middle, and side buttons (M4/M5).
  2. Scroll your wheel up and down to verify scroll functionality.
  3. Watch the diagram — each button glows purple when pressed and turns green once tested.
  4. Check the status panel to see per-button click counts and whether each button passed the test.
  5. Once all buttons are tested, a completion banner confirms your mouse is working correctly.

Common Mouse Issues Detected

  • Double Clicking: A single click registering as two. Use our Double Click Test to diagnose this specific issue.
  • Side Buttons Not Working: If M4/M5 don't register, they might be disabled in your mouse software or not supported by the browser.
  • Middle Click Failures: The scroll wheel switch is often the first to fail. It requires more force and wears faster than side switches.
  • Scroll Wheel Skipping: If your scroll registers erratic jumps, the wheel encoder may be dirty or failing.

Pro Tips

  • Full-Screen Mode: Press F11 to prevent your browser from intercepting certain mouse buttons as navigation shortcuts.
  • Browser Blocking: Some browsers block M4/M5 for Back/Forward navigation. Try in Chrome or Firefox for best results.
  • Gaming Mice: If your mouse has programmable buttons mapped to keyboard keys, they won't register as mouse buttons in this test.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why aren't my side buttons working?

If M4/M5 light up here but not in-game, you need to bind them in the game's settings. If they don't light up here, the switch might be broken or disabled in your mouse driver software.

Can I test extra macro buttons?

Browsers generally only detect buttons 1 through 5. Extra "sniper buttons" or macro keys often mimic keyboard keys and won't show up as mouse buttons in an online test.

Does this test work with wireless mice?

Yes! Wireless mice work exactly the same as wired mice for button testing. The connection type doesn't affect which buttons are detected.

My scroll wheel is registering clicks — is that a problem?

No, most scroll wheels are also a button (middle click). If you're getting unwanted middle clicks while scrolling, your scroll wheel switch may be worn and need replacement.
