About Visual Memory

The Visual Memory Test evaluates your Visuospatial Sketchpadโ€”the part of working memory that handles visual and spatial information. Unlike the Number Memory test (which uses audio/internal voice), this test relies purely on pattern recognition.

How to Play

  1. A grid of tiles will appear.
  2. Some tiles will flash White for a brief moment.
  3. Memorize the locations of the white tiles.
  4. When they flip back, click the tiles that were white.
  5. The grid size and number of tiles increase with each level.

How to Improve Spatial Memory

  • Shape Recognition: Don't try to memorize individual squares. Look for the "shape" they form together (e.g., "a big L" or "a smiley face").
  • Grid Division: Mentally divide the grid into smaller 2x2 or 3x3 sections and memorize the pattern in each section separately.

What Your Score Usually Means

Most people improve quickly once they stop memorizing single squares and start grouping them into shapes. Early gains often come from better strategy rather than raw talent, which makes this a strong page for short daily practice.

To build a broader routine, pair this with the Sequence Memory Test, Number Memory Test, and Verbal Memory Test. Each one trains a different part of working memory.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good level?

Level 8-10 is considered average. Reaching Level 15 or higher requires exceptional pattern recognition skills.

How does this help in real life?

Strong visual memory aids in navigation (remembering maps), driving (tracking other cars), and sports (predicting player positions).
